About (original)

Hi, I’m Helena and I’m really glad you’ve found my blog – it’s no coincidence that you’re here.

For the last year I’ve been writing on another blog “Sunshine, Natural Immunity & Real Food” and for a few different reasons, it wasn’t inspiring me anymore – I wanted to talk about more than just health issues, so this site, “New-Age Retro Mum” is my new “online” home.

This isn’t just another “mommy” blog

While being a Mum is my main focus right now (actually it will be for quite some time), it’s just one part of who I am and what I write about here.

There were a few things that led to the “a-ha” moment of what my new blog would be about.

  • I’m a big believer in alternate healthcare and doing my own research on what is safest and works best for me and my family – I want to share my thoughts (and opinions) and in doing so, you might find something that resonates with you;
  • After watching a few episodes of Oprah (I am a “stay at home mum” after all) featuring Dr Christiane Northrup talking about peri-menopause and menopause, I wondered if some of the frustration/anger/disilllusionment I was feeling wasn’t just hormonal, but because I wasn’t putting myself and my needs first and that maybe it was time to explore how to do that in order to be a better mother, wife, all-round nice human being;
  • A few girlfriends shared with me their secret desire for something different in their lives and to do something a bit out of the ordinary – this really struck a chord with me because although I love Melbourne (voted the most liveable city in the world a few times), I really long for a house right on the beach in a warm, sunny location (Byron Bay would be fantastic, and I’m open to other suggestions).

So while I had all these exciting ideas running around in my head, it was ultimately my husband (Warren) that came up with the name for this site after a brain-storming session, based on my desire to merge the great aspects of parenting, family life and health from the “olden days” with the “out of the box” ideas of creating streams of income that will allow Warren and I to:

  • “work” from anywhere in the world that has an internet connection
  • earn more than enough money from doing what we love (currently that’s creating websites and share trading) to support our family very nicely (and without ever having to work in a regular “job” again)
  • home-school Daniel (our little boy) and any other children we may have
  • really enjoy all of the amazing things this world has to offer.

“The basis of your life is absolute freedom, the goal is joy, and the result of that perfect combination is motion forward, or growth. Your goal is to find objects of attention that let your cork raise.”
